Three Sisters Agriculture

Guest Speaker: Doug Martin from Central Texas Cherokee Township
In this talk we will discuss what constitutes “Three sisters agriculture;” the benefits and drawbacks of attempting this method in Central Texas; and the importance of these plants to Native communities. We will share information and updates about our current and future garden projects and events. The talk will include some traditional stories and Cherokee language names for plants and traditional foods. We will also go over the traditional process of nixtamlization, so participants who do decide to grow corn can get the most nutrition out of their harvest. |
