Build A 2-Bin Compost System For $65

Specifications:
3.5 x 3.5 ft for each bin

Site Selection:
Choose a 4x8 ft shady location that is out of sight of neighbors and of your sitting area, in back or side yard. Water must be accessible to the compost bin.
Supplies:
  1. Green plastic ½ in mesh garden fencing-4x50 ft roll (Callahan’s) $19
  2. 6 -6 ft steel posts (wing at bottom) $24
  3. 1 in x 10 ft electrical metallic conduit (cut in half for 5 ft door handles) $11
  4. 2 -3” long 2 inch PVC pipe couplings (cut in half, file away inner ridge) $3
  5. 8 in black cable ties- 1 bags of 100 $8
TOTAL: $65
Instructions:
  1. Measure out where the steel posts will be and water the area to make it easier to drive the steel posts. Poke the hose end into the ground as far as possible.
  2. Drive the 6 ft steel posts with a sledge hammer or steel post driver. Be sure to level them both front-back and side-side. Hammer into the ground until the wings disappear.
  3. First put a PVC ring around both the center front and the right front door posts. Drop them to the ground to catch the bottom end of the door handle conduits.
  4. Then wrap the fencing around the first 4 posts and secure using the ties, starting from the right front. Wrap the ties around the thicker horizontal fence strands; the verticals break easily. End the first bin by wrapping the fencing around the conduit to make a door. Close the door by dropping the bottom of the conduit into the bottom PVC ring, pulling the conduit tight to the post, and dropping a second ring over the top of the door post and the top of the conduit.
  5. Repeat for the second bin. Place 2 left posts, start fencing from center back post, use center front post as the second door post.

Done. Admire your work.
