Elderberry trees (Sambucus nigra) are deciduous shrubs or small trees known for their edible berries and flowers, which have numerous health benefits and culinary uses.

Elderberry trees can grow up to 6 meters tall and are characterized by their cork-like bark and pinnate leaves with 3-9 leaflets. They produce white flowers in flat-topped clusters during late spring, followed by dark purple to black berries that ripen in late summer or early fall.

Elderberry trees thrive in rich, moist soils and prefer full sun or partial shade. They are often found in woods, hedges, and waste grounds, and can be propagated easily through cuttings.
