Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii "Red"
Turk's Cap is great for shady areas. It's bright-red, pendant, hibiscus-like flowers never fully open, their petals overlapping to form a loose tube said to resemble a Turkish turban, hence its most common name, Turk's Cap. It blooms summer to fall. You can eat the red fruits it produces, or leave them for wildlife.
The variety name of this plant is named for Scottish naturalist Thomas Drummond, who collected specimens during a trip to America in the 1830s. He collected 750 species of plants and 150 specimens of birds during his time in Texas.
